The intervention, being implemented through the Lagos Water Corporation, is part of the rehabilitation of the Iju Headworks and Akute Intake Station under Lots 1, 2 and 3 of the project.
The eight-month rehabilitation programme, funded by the state government, runs from February to October 2026 and also covers the rehabilitation of the Iju and Adiyan water treatment plants.
The project is focused on replacing and upgrading critical pumping systems and related infrastructure at the facilities, with the Lagos Water Corporation saying the intervention is expected to restore operational efficiency and strengthen water production capacity.
The Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation, Mukhtaar Tijani, said the rehabilitation was aligned with the corporation’s strategic business plan and the state government’s objective of improving public water services.
At the project’s kick-off meeting earlier this year, Tijani said the intervention was aimed at revitalising critical water infrastructure and improving residents’ access to reliable and sustainable public water supply.
“This project must not be business as usual. We want all hands on deck to ensure timely and successful delivery. Let this dream become a reality,” he said.
The corporation said the installation and rehabilitation work, upon completion, would improve the operational performance of the Iju Headworks and Akute Water Intake Stations, increase water production, reduce operational downtime and strengthen the reliability of water supply.
It added that the project was expected to expand access to safe and potable water for millions of Lagos residents.
The Lagos Water Corporation said it would continue to invest in critical infrastructure as part of efforts to provide sustainable and efficient public water services across the state.
