The opposition parties in Nigeria are lamenting. Being Africans, they see so much correlation with their challenges in the adage, “if an evil bird cries in the night and a child dies in the morning, the cause of the death is not far-fetched.” It would seem that a brood of descendants of Balaam has invaded the parties under the contractual agreement with King Balak in “curse ye my enemies” sole request.

A story is told of a man with the gift of divination.
A story is told of a man with the gift of divination. It was the story of a prophet who chose to deploy his gift for filthy lucre.
At a point in his life, he had prayed: “Let me die the death of the righteous and let my last end be like his,” (Numbers 31:8). But his actions led to the opposite fate: a death in battle alongside enemies of God, rather than a peaceful death.
Balaam, the son of Beor the Aramean, was a man of no mean repute. He mingled with the Crème de la crème in society in his days. He was a man of means.
But despite his high reputation for spiritual things, he yielded himself to the manipulative influence of politicians of his days.
Of all his activities, the one that was prominently captured in the scripture was his dalliance with King Balak of Moab, who had hired him for a hatchet man’s job: to curse his enemies (children of Israel who were on their journey to the Promised Land). Balak promised to handsomely reward Balaam if he agreed to carry out the task.
After much haggling arising from persuasion and a promise of more rewards, Balaam caved in.
Mind you, he had earlier been warned by God never to accept the contract. He went back and forth, hoping that he would obtain a divine permission, anyhow. In the end, he determined to sell his prophetic gift for financial reward and fame.
On his way, an angel of God withstood him. He could not see the angel, but his donkey did. He resorted to hitting the animal until the donkey spoke, out of frustration. Then his eyes were opened to see the sword-wielding angel.
Several years after he exited the earth, Balaam became a teaching point; a reference for negative influence to the church in Pergamos.
“But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication,” (Revelation 2: 14).
Ahead of the 2027 general election, stumbling blocks are being cast before many political parties by some descendants of Balaam.
These descendants of Balaam have also invaded the opposition political parties with all manner of lewdness. Parties that were formed under democratic principles have been vulgarised.
In the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a group of Balaams have been deployed, using their gift of “divination” against a party that ruled Nigeria for 16 years. Today, a stumbling block has been cast before the party to the point that it will not field a presidential candidate in the election. This definitive declaration has been made, rather pompously, by the factional leaders of the group.
The Labour Party (PDP) is like the church in Sardis, against which this prophecy was given, “You have a name that you are alive, but you are dead,” (Revelation 3:1).
Although the court has since given a clear judgement ending the tenure of Julius Abure as national chairman of the party, it would seem that the man is working with an unseen Balak to cast a stumbling block against LP, to hinder its viability in 2027. Today, the party is waxing neither hot nor cold because the future is uncertain.
Nafiu Bala Gombe, the troubler-in-chief of the ADC, was said to be an innocent fellow until he was allegedly approached by Balak to come “curse ye my enemies.”
Lasisi Olagunju, in his piece ‘Point-and-Kill-Politics’, wondered at what point Bala Gombe realised he was supposed to be the chairman of ADC.
He said: “Attached to Nafiu Bala’s Facebook post are three photographs of several men and women at party leadership meeting. I easily recognized David Mark seated at the centre. Nafiu Bala and Mark appear in the three photos.
“I checked the Facebook post yesterday. It was still there on Bala’s timeline. Check. It should still be there as you read this.
“So, at what point did Nafiu Bala start dragging the national chairmanship of that party with David Mark? What changed, or what forced the change?”
The descendants of Balaam have also extended their wizardry to the newly registered National Democratic Congress (NDC). They have since invaded the Accord Party (AP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The other day, Senator Seriake Dickson, founder of the NDC, rose in defence of the party, when he described the views of Umar Ardo, a member of the ADC (that the party was not well registered), as “misguided and sponsored propaganda.”
The senator alluded to outside manipulations to unsettle the party.
Since early 2026, the SDP has been facing internal crises ranging from leadership disputes, to external challenges.
The target of the descendants of Balaam is to derail the course of democracy in Nigeria, in the same manner their patriarch, the old Balaam, yielded himself to the manipulative tendencies of King Balak to frustrate the movement of the people of God into the Promised Land.
May the politicians who have sworn to destroy Nigeria see the angel draw a sword, and may they beat a retreat from their unpatriotic activities.
