The Damaturu Command of the Yobe State Hisbah Board says it has stopped a planned “Colour Festival” allegedly organised by some youths in the state capital, warning that events it considers contrary to Islamic teachings will not be tolerated.

The board said the operation was carried out on Saturday as part of efforts to uphold morality, preserve religious values and prevent activities it said were inconsistent with the teachings of Islam.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Media and Publicity Officer of the Damaturu Hisbah Command, Y. M. Abba.
According to the statement, the command remains committed to ensuring peace, moral discipline and the preservation of Islamic values in society.
“We will continue to monitor and take appropriate measures to ensure peace, moral discipline and the preservation of religious values in the society,” the statement read.
The board warned individuals and groups against organising events or celebrations that violate Islamic teachings.
It added that anyone found organising or supporting such activities would face legal action in accordance with the law.
“The Hisbah Board will not relent in taking legal action against anyone found organising or supporting such activities,” the statement added.
The command maintained that its action was in line with its mandate to promote public morality and preserve religious values in the state.
Although the Hisbah statement did not provide details of the planned event, PUNCH Online cannot independently verify what the said festival is all about.
