“I hear you from various angles of the economy.
“I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard,” the president said, while urging Nigerians to remain resilient. He assured the public that his administration “will not look back” in its efforts to find ways to support the vulnerable.
Energy security boosted by 60MW power plant
As part of his visit, President Tinubu inaugurated several projects, including a 60-megawatt gas-fired independent power plant (IPP) in Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area. The facility, executed by the administration of Governor Douye Diri, aims to improve electricity supply and accelerate industrial growth in the Niger Delta.
The plant is designed to strengthen energy security by reducing dependence on the national grid and delivering stable electricity to homes and businesses. Powered by gas turbines, the facility will primarily serve Yenagoa and surrounding communities, unlocking new investment opportunities for small and medium-scale enterprises.
Infrastructure as a catalyst for regional growth
The president also commissioned the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road, a project that has transformed accessibility for the people of Southern Ijaw. Previously accessible only by water, the new road is expected to drive economic development in areas long hindered by poor connectivity.
President Tinubu commended Governor Diri for his commitment to infrastructure, including the construction of bridges and dual carriageways. “Development advances further and faster when the federal government and the state government work in partnership towards a shared purpose,” the president remarked.
Addressing security concerns, particularly the recent killing of Nigerian soldiers, the president assured that the government would continue to equip and train the armed forces to defeat terrorism and banditry. He stressed that governance must be translated into tangible infrastructure and real opportunities for the people.
During the event, Governor Diri appealed for the refund of funds spent by the state government on federal road projects. President Tinubu acknowledged the request, promising to review the matter with the relevant ministries. The governor noted that the projects align with his “Assured Prosperity” programme, which focuses on rural and urban development, accessibility, and inclusion.
