The Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, has instituted a criminal complaint case against two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State command, at a Magistrate’s court, over the alleged assault of one of its members, Aladodo Nurudeen.

The officers named in the suit are Ajayi Gbolahan and Busari Babatunde, who were accused of physically assaulting the lawyer while he was reportedly at the NSCDC office in his professional capacity to attend to a client.

According to the Direct Complaint, dated April 14, 2026 and signed by the Secretary of the NBA, Dauda Jimoh, the incident occurred on April 10, 2026 at the NSCDC office in Ilorin.
The complaint, a copy of which was obtained by Saturday PUNCH in Ilorin on Friday, alleged that the lawyer was standing under a tree near his vehicle while waiting for his client when the officers confronted and assaulted him despite identifying himself as a legal practitioner.
The Complaint reads: “On 10th April, 2026, our member visited the NSCDC office in Ilorin in his professional capacity to attend to a client.
“While standing under a tree near his vehicle, the Defendants, Officers of the NSCDC, confronted and physically assaulted him, despite our member identifying himself as a legal practitioner.
“The Defendants, along with other officers, dragged our member into a room where he was further brutalised and seriously assaulted,” the complaint stated.
The NBA further described the alleged actions of the officers as “unprovoked” and a “blatant abuse of power,” adding that the lawyer sustained injuries and suffered humiliation as a result of the incident.
The association also alleged that the State Commandant of the NSCDC was present during the incident but allegedly failed to intervene or address the situation.
“The Defendants’ actions amount to assault, causing hurt, criminal intimidation, insult, and annoyance, contrary to Sections 265, 246, and 396 of the Penal Code Law,” the complaint added.
At the last hearing of the matter, counsel to the prosecution, Prof D.A. Ariyo-Osu, represented by J.S. Muhammed, informed the court that the Kwara Commandant of the NSCDC had allegedly failed to comply with a court order directing him to produce the accused officers.
The prosecution subsequently applied for a warrant of arrest against the two officers and also sought a summons compelling the NSCDC Commandant to appear and show cause why he should not be committed for contempt.
Counsel representing the NSCDC, M.M. Kolo, apologised for the absence of the commandant, explaining that the first defendant, Ajayi Gbolahan, who had been officially identified, allegedly absconded after disciplinary proceedings were initiated against him by the corps.
Kolo also told the court that the second defendant, Busari Babatunde, could not be officially identified.
The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Adebayo Qudus, granted the applications filed by the prosecution and adjourned the matter till May 20, 2026, for further hearing.
