A Commanding Officer and six other personnel have been killed after troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, repelled a terrorist attack on their position in Monguno, Borno State.
The troops came under attack at the Charlie 13 location in the late hours of April 12, 2026, triggering a fierce gun battle that forced the attackers to retreat. Troops, however, maintained control of the position.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Commanding Officer lost his life while moving towards the frontline to assess the situation.
His vehicle reportedly struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), killing him alongside six other personnel.
The military described the officer’s actions as a demonstration of exceptional leadership and bravery, noting that he advanced towards danger even after the immediate threat had been contained.
It added that his conduct reflected courage, selfless service, and a commitment to leading from the front in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of his troops.
Operation Hadin Kai mourned the fallen personnel, stating that their sacrifice would remain indelible in the memory of the Armed Forces and the nation.
The North-East region has remained a hotspot of insurgency, with troops continuing sustained operations against terrorist groups operating across Borno and surrounding states.
