Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has officially picked up her expression of interest and nomination forms to contest for the Ogun West Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, setting the stage for an early contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement, which emerged from a stakeholders’ meeting held at Adeola Odutola Hall, Ijebu-Ode, has continued to generate reactions within the party, with loyalists of opposing camps alleging exclusion and lack of broad consultation. The development has further intensified early permutations across senatorial districts in the state.
Against that backdrop, Salako-Oyedele’s move is seen as a strategic realignment within the party’s evolving structure, particularly in Ogun West, where political attention has now shifted following the consolidation of the governorship and Ogun East arrangements.
According to her, the decision reflects continuity of service and commitment to constituents.
“This step marks the continuation of a journey already rooted in service, guided by clarity of purpose, and strengthened by the trust and support of Ogun indigenes, especially the Ogun West Senatorial District,” she said.
Salako-Oyedele, who was previously considered a possible successor to Governor Abiodun before the party’s consensus arrangement on the governorship, is now positioning herself to occupy the Senate seat reportedly linked to Senator Olamilekan Adeola, also known as Yayi.
Sources within the APC say her forms were obtained ahead of her official declaration, signalling early coordination within her political camp.
Other aspirants in the race reportedly include former senator Gbolahan Dada, Waliu Taiwo and Jimoh Ojugbele, as competition for the Ogun West ticket intensifies.
Party insiders say attempts at reaching a consensus arrangement may prove difficult given the number of contenders, although some stakeholders are said to favour the deputy governor, citing gender inclusion and political balance.
Ogun State has not produced a female senator since Iyabo Obasanjo left the Senate in 2011.
