…Says, ‘I know what it takes to build a political structure, make it competitive in Delta State’
- +Omo-Agege reveals plans to make NDC competitive in Delta State
Ovie Omo-Agege, former deputy Senate president of Nigeria, has declared his ability to build the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) in Delta State and make the new party competitive.
Ovie Omo-Agege, former deputy Senate president of Nigeria, has declared his ability to build the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) in Delta State and make the new party competitive.
“We did it before for the APC when many said it was impossible. We mobilised at the grassroots, organised our people, and changed the political equation.
“I bring that same resolve and experience to the NDC. Our immediate priority will be to strengthen the party from the ward level upward, register new members, and prepare a credible slate of candidates for the 2027 elections.
Omo-Agege made the declaration while joining the NDC after resigning his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.
He left the APC after losing to a serving senator, Ede Dafinone, in the party’s Delta Central Senatorial Primary Election held recently, alleging that the result of the election was manipulated against him in favour of his opponent. He also accused the party of not keeping to the agreement they reached when PDP members defected to APC.
Omo-Agege, while leaving, pulled along his teaming supporters to the NDC having been given waiver to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial District seat on the platform of the party in 2027 general election.
Victor Ochei, another heavyweight and former speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly who also resigned after Omo-Agege is also enjoying the NDC’s waiver to contest for Delta North Senatorial seat.
Omo-Agege and Ochei were among the foundation members of the APC in Delta State, a party that stood as strong opposition against the ruling PDP under Ifeanyi Okowa and later Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Okowa and Sheriff team last year defected to the APC, leading to heavy crisis in the party of which President Bola Tinubu and the national working committee intervened to reconcile them.
The intervention saw Omo-Agege (2023 guber candidate of APC), shifting ground and accepting senatorial position to allow Oborevwori continue his tenure as the governor of the state.
However, the more reconciliation moves were made, the more crisis escalated, bordering on party’s structure and power control. The recently held primary elections of the party across the state became that last dynamite that exploded the party, leading to the mass exodus of the members to other parties including the NDC.
The NDC at the moment seems like a beautiful bride to many aggrieved members of the APC and all Deltans that desire a change in the leadership and governance of the state.
Between Thursday and Friday, the NDC concluded all the primary elections from presidential to governorship, the National Assembly and the State Assembly, with massive turnout of delegates. The results were being awaited and the National Working Committee of the party disclosed that the result would be announced by the headquarters.
Omo-Agege in his message to Deltans on Thursday, declared, “This is more than an election cycle. This is a defining moment for Delta State and for Nigeria. It is a choice between continuing with a system that rewards silence and mediocrity, or choosing a new direction built on accountability and service, said Omo-Agege.
“To the youth of Delta State: your time is now. Do not accept the lie that you must wait your turn. Organize in your communities, register to vote, and make your voices impossible to ignore. Your energy, creativity, and courage are the most powerful tools we have to change this state.
“To the women who hold our families and communities together: mobilize your networks, your markets, your churches, and your neighborhoods. Your participation will determine the outcome of 2027.
“To our elders and traditional rulers: your wisdom has guided us through difficult times before. Speak now for the generation coming behind you. Your voice gives legitimacy and direction to this movement.
“And to every registered voter: your Permanent Voter’s Card is your greatest power. It is stronger than money, stronger than intimidation, and stronger than propaganda. Protect it, use it, and use it wisely in 2027.
“In 2027, we will end the era of excuses, empty promises, and leaders who vanish after elections. We will return power to the people of Delta State and to the people of Nigeria. Together, under the banner of the NDE, we will reclaim Delta State. Together, we will reclaim Nigeria.
“The work starts now. The time is now. The people are ready”, Omo-Agege concluded.
