The 28-year-old has not featured for his boyhood club since December 2024. He spent the latter part of last season on loan at Aston Villa before joining Barcelona on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.
Barcelona retain an option to make the move permanent for €30 million (£26.1m), with a decision expected before the June 15 deadline.
Rashford fell out of favour at Old Trafford under former manager Ruben Amorim, becoming part of a group of players sidelined from first-team plans.
Despite the uncertainty, Carrick insists no final decision has been taken regarding the England international’s future.
“There are decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation,” Carrick said. “But at this point in time, nothing has been decided. It will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but right now there’s nothing to say.”
Rashford, who still has two years remaining on his current Manchester United contract, has not ruled out a return to Old Trafford. His deal also includes a potential 25% wage increase should the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The England forward is expected to be part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and has maintained steady form, scoring 12 goals in 43 appearances this season.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are currently third in the Premier League standings, holding a seven-point advantage over sixth-placed Chelsea ahead of their clash at Stamford Bridge.
With Barcelona yet to make a final call and United keeping the door open, Rashford’s future remains finely balanced heading into the summer transfer window.
