Speaking in an interview with Anthony Nlebem, the Sevilla striker combined reflection with optimism, assessing his personal progress, club ambitions, and the lessons from Nigeria’s World Cup setback.
Adams, who has emerged as Sevilla’s top scorer this season, credited his form to consistency, trust from his coaches, and strong team support.
“I thank God for staying healthy and for the trust from the coach,” he said. “My teammates make things easier. It hasn’t been the best season for us as a team, but personally, I’ve tried to contribute with goals and assists.”
The 26-year-old’s performances have placed him among the top African players in La Liga, underlining his rapid development since arriving from Montpellier. He highlighted the tactical sophistication of Spanish football compared to Ligue 1.
“La Liga is more tactical and technical, while Ligue 1 is more about raw talent and physicality,” he explained.
Despite his club success, Adams admitted Nigeria’s absence from the 2026 World Cup remains a major setback.
“Nigeria’s presence at the World Cup is always felt. It’s a big disappointment not to be there,” he said. “But it’s a collective responsibility, players and the federation, to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Looking ahead to the 2030 World Cup, Adams stressed that rebuilding begins immediately.
“The preparation starts now. Every day counts if we want to rewrite the story.”
Adams has also had to adapt quickly at Sevilla, working under multiple managers in a short span. He believes professionalism and tactical awareness have been key to maintaining consistency.
“You don’t have time. You must learn quickly and adapt to what each coach wants,” he said.
On the international stage, the striker described his Africa Cup of Nations debut under Eric Chelle as a defining moment.
“It’s a privilege to represent Nigeria. Playing with top players naturally raises your level,” he noted.
The forward also acknowledged the positive impact of regular national team call-ups on his club form, citing increased confidence and mental refreshment despite the physical demands.
Adams’ season has included standout moments against top opposition, with goals against leading Spanish sides reinforcing his growing reputation. Yet, he remains measured in his self-assessment.
“I don’t rate my season until it’s over. My focus is always on helping the team finish strong,” he said.
With Sevilla still pushing to end the campaign on a high, Adams is clear about his immediate targets: more goals, more assists, and sustained impact.
As for the future, the Nigerian striker is balancing ambition with patience, determined to build on a breakthrough year while keeping both club and country objectives firmly in sight.
