Broos’ side now stands just one victory away from an unprecedented place in the last 16, but the veteran Belgian believes the strong bond within the squad has been the foundation of South Africa’s success. Addressing reporters ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Canada, Broos highlighted the unique relationship he has cultivated with his players since taking charge in 2021.
“Between me as a coach and them as players is maybe something unique. I’m the coach, but I’m not just a coach. I think I’m a friend of theirs. So the relationship between the players and me is very good.”
