The party said it would instead focus on producing its own candidates, including a presidential flagbearer, through its internal electoral process.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the National Chairman of the NRM, Prince Chinedu Obi, said the party was not considering any form of political alliance.
He said, “We’re not planning on merging with any political party or joining a coalition. We’ll produce our presidential candidate through the ballot.”
Obi said recent court rulings had also helped resolve internal disputes within the party.
He said the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, struck out an appeal filed by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Edozie Njoku, which he said had been linked to the leadership tussle in the party.
According to him, the judgment has strengthened unity within the NRM and put to rest claims of factional crisis.
Obi added that the party remains stable and better positioned than many opposition parties currently facing internal disagreements.
He said the party is open to supporting qualified aspirants for elective offices, stressing that its focus is on competence.
He said, “We want Nigerians to know that the impression they have that the NRM has a crisis because of some individuals who are not even members of the party, that there’s no single crisis in NRM.
“There are still good political parties. The NRM is the one prepared to rescue Nigeria from the current situation.”
