The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has commenced the first batch of its 2026 promotion exercise for senior officers in the paramilitary services.

The exercise targets officers in the ranks of Deputy Controllers/Comptrollers/Commandants and Controllers/Comptrollers/Commandants across the four services under the Board: the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Correctional Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Fire Service.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by CDCFIB’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Okeh Juliet.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the Army Resource Centre in the Asokoro District of Abuja, the Secretary to the Board, Maj.-Gen. Abdulmaleek Jibrin (retd.), urged participating officers to maintain the highest standards of discipline and conduct throughout the process.
He stated, “The essence of the promotion examination is to enhance the capacity of serving officers and strengthen their effectiveness for improved service delivery across the four services under the Board.”
The secretary “further emphasised that the exercise is aimed at ensuring that only qualified & competent officers are elevated to higher ranks, in line with the Board’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and excellence.”
The announcement comes after the Board successfully concluded the 2025 promotion exercise, in which over 24,000 officers were elevated across the services.
It also comes as applicants continue to await the continuation of the recruitment exercise the board started last year.
Recall that shortlisted candidates were informed that the recruitment portal would open from December 1–3, 2025, to enable them select screening centres and dates ahead of physical and document verification earlier scheduled for December 8–12, 2025.
However, on December 1, the CDCFIB announced an indefinite postponement of the portal opening, citing the need for further adjustments.
The delay followed the completion of the computer-based test on November 19, 2025, during which candidates were selected based on merit and federal character guidelines.
