The dual endorsement was announced during a political rally held at Ansar-ud-Deen ‘A’ LGEA School on Friday in Ijagbo, which attracted party leaders, stakeholders and supporters from across the council area.
Addressing the gathering, the Oyun Local Government Chairman, Akanbi Olarenwaju, said the endorsement of Tinubu for a second term was based on the party’s confidence in his leadership and commitment to national development.
He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President aligns with the aspirations of the people and deserves continuity.
Lawal also explained that the endorsement of Danladi-Salihu as governorship candidate was rooted in the need to promote equity, fairness and inclusiveness within the state.
“We have collectively agreed to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and support Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu for Kwara State governor in 2027,” he said.
Speaking further, the council chairman emphasised the importance of power rotation among the three senatorial districts, noting that Kwara North has yet to produce a governor since 1999.
“We stand before you today to speak on a matter of justice, fairness and sustainable unity, the need for a power shift to Kwara North.
“Since the return to democracy, leadership has rotated between Kwara Central and Kwara South. Kwara North, despite its vast landmass and potential, has not enjoyed the same opportunity,” he said.
According to him, allowing the North to produce the next governor would strengthen unity and give all regions a sense of belonging.
“A shift of power to the North is not just about fairness; it is about strengthening our unity. When every region has a stake in leadership, the bonds that hold us together become stronger,” Lawal added.
He maintained that the district has competent and capable individuals who can lead the state effectively if given the opportunity.
“Kwara North is not lacking in capable and visionary leaders. What is required is the opportunity to serve at the highest level,” he said.
Lawal also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as impactful leadership, noting that the administration has repositioned the state for sustainable growth.
He said the endorsement of Danladi-Salihu was aimed at consolidating on the achievements of the current government.
“We thank God for giving us a pragmatic leader in Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who is building a new Kwara. We must sustain these achievements through continuity and unity,” he said.
