The Jigawa State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, deploying tactical units, undercover operatives and bomb disposal personnel to strategic locations to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Sallah.
In a statement issued to reporters in Dutse on Tuesday signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lawan Shiisu Adam stated that the Commissioner of Police, Haruna A. Yahaya, assured residents that the command had activated all operational assets and strengthened security arrangements before, during and after the festivities.
The police said personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit, Patrol Teams, Intelligence Units, Traffic Department, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Police Mobile Force (PMF) and other tactical formations had been deployed to Eid prayer grounds, markets, highways, motor parks, recreational centres and other public places across the state.
According to the statement, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has also intensified intelligence gathering, surveillance patrols, stop-and-search operations and confidence-building measures aimed at preventing criminal activities and maintaining public order throughout the celebration.
The commissioner directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders to remain vigilant and ensure effective visibility policing as well as rapid response to emergencies in their respective areas.
The command urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information capable of preventing crime and criminality.
Parents and guardians were also advised to caution their children against reckless driving, dangerous horse riding, substance abuse and other activities capable of causing a breach of peace during the festive period.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that adequate measures had been put in place to sustain peace and security across Jigawa during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
