In a statement signed by Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of BYM, made available to Journalists on Tuesday in Jos, described the incident as a premeditated assault on innocent residents.
According to the Association, “the attack occurred at about 7:49 pm of Monday when the terrorists, who had already positioned themselves, laid an ambush at the entrance of Dum Village, targeting unsuspecting victims”.
“It was during this ambush that two young men from Rachi Kyeng community, Badung Sunday and Dachomo Habila, ran into the attackers, leading to the fatal shooting of Sunday, while Habila narrowly escaped”.
The Group identified the deceased as Badung Sunday, a 29-year-old NCE III student of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, lamenting that his death has cut short a promising future and brought grief to his family, where he was the only male child.
BYM described the attack as barbaric and deliberate, alleging that peaceful communities in Riyom, Barkin Ladi, and Jos South Local Government Areas have continued to face persistent threats, while calling on security agencies to urgently investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The Association also urged security operatives to strengthen surveillance in vulnerable communities and extended condolences to the family of the deceased, while expressing gratitude that Dachomo Habila survived the attack.
All efforts to reach Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Command were unsuccessful as his phone did not connect at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has commended security personnel for their swift response to a terrorist attack on Pwomol Village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, which left three persons dead.
In a statement, signed by Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the association, made available to Journalists on Tuesday in Jos, BYM praised the efforts of troops of the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, under the command of Asuquo Victor, a colonel noting that their timely intervention prevented further casualties and led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Yusuf.
According to the Association, the attackers, said to be over 200 in number, carried out a coordinated assault on the community, killing Marvin Dung, 22; Bitrus Pam, 24; and Da Daniel Mwanvwang Dung, 55, while another victim, Pam Davou, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
BYM also commended Ahmed, the Area Commander of Bisichi for his gallantry and professionalism, stating that the combined efforts of security operatives have helped restore public confidence and demonstrated commitment to protecting lives and property.
The Association called on authorities to intensify operations against criminal elements, ensure a thorough investigation into the attack, and bring all those responsible, including sponsors, to justice, while reiterating the need to strengthen local security frameworks to curb recurring violence.
