The Democratic Republic of Congo has reopened Bunia airport in Ituri province. The decision allows flights to resume while health checks remain in place due to Ebola cases in the area.
The move was announced by the transport ministry. It said passenger flights can now operate again with health screening at departure and arrival points. Passengers will have their temperature checked. Anyone showing fever signs will not be allowed to travel.
Officials say Ebola has spread across several health areas in Ituri. Reports show 321 confirmed cases and 48 deaths. The virus has also reached 15 out of 36 health zones in the province.
The World Health Organization director general visited the region earlier. He said response efforts show some progress, including recorded recoveries. He also pointed to the need for more testing and treatment capacity.
Health workers say the outbreak started weeks before it was confirmed. Aid groups warn the spread may be wider than current figures show. The International Rescue Committee says transmission may have gone on for months before detection.
Authorities continue monitoring movement and health conditions around affected areas as response efforts continue.
