Chelsea ended their six-match Premier League losing streak after battling Liverpool to a tense 1-1 draw at Anfield.
Liverpool missed the chance to strengthen their grip on a top-four finish after being held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Anfield, where frustrated supporters voiced their displeasure despite the Reds moving closer to Champions League qualification.
Ryan Gravenberch fired Liverpool ahead early on with a composed finish after being set up by teenage winger Rio Ngumoha, one of the hosts’ standout performers. However, Liverpool failed to maintain control and allowed Chelsea back into the contest as the visitors gradually grew in confidence.
Chelsea found an equaliser 10 minutes before half-time when Enzo Fernandez’s free-kick drifted through a crowded penalty area and into the net. The visitors nearly took the lead moments later as Fernandez continued to threaten Liverpool’s defence.
Both sides had goals ruled out in the second half. Cole Palmer thought he had put Chelsea ahead, but Marc Cucurella was judged offside in the build-up. Liverpool were then denied when Curtis Jones headed home from Cody Gakpo’s cross, only for Gakpo to be flagged offside.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s decision to substitute Ngumoha in the 67th minute drew loud boos from sections of the Anfield crowd, reflecting growing frustration during a tense second half.
The hosts pushed for a late winner, with Dominik Szoboszlai striking the post and Virgil van Dijk rattling the crossbar with a header, but Chelsea held firm to secure a point and end their six-game losing run in the Premier League.
The result keeps Liverpool fourth in the table, seven points ahead of sixth-placed Bournemouth, while Chelsea remain ninth.
