A wave of grief and shock has followed a disturbing scene in Plateau State, where Favour Ayuba, a bereaved mother, called on her dead son to avenge his killing after a recent attack in Jos.
Her son, Promise, was among those killed during the Palm Sunday assault on Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, an incident that left at least 28 people dead and several others injured.
In a viral video that has stirred emotions nationwide, seen by BusinessDay on Saturday, Ayuba was seen placing a cutlass wrapped in white cloth into her son’s coffin, an act she described as a symbolic appeal for vengeance.
Speaking in a trembling, grief-stricken voice, she revealed that she had not eaten since the day of the attack, overwhelmed by the pain of losing her child.
The mourning mother also invoked a biblical reference, drawing strength from the story of Gideon, whom she described as victorious in battle, as she expressed hope for justice.
Her emotional outburst reflects the growing despair among families affected by the persistent violence in Plateau State, where repeated attacks have left many devastated and searching for answers.
She said, “If you want me to forget, baby, avenge your death. I carried you in my womb for nine months; you suckled at my breast. Baby, I trust you revenge for me, revenge for me. Please, wherever they are, follow them and avenge your death”.
