Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s vice President on Friday paid an on-the-spot assessment visit to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State, following the recent gunmen attack that left three people dead and sparked concerns over security at the country’s premier policy institution.

Shettima, accompanied by Caleb Mutfwang and other senior government officials, inspected facilities at the institute and received briefings on its operations, ongoing strategic programmes and measures being taken to enhance security.

The vice president was received by Ayo Omotayo, the director-general of NIPSS alongside members of the institute’s management team, who outlined efforts to strengthen security and ensure the institution continues to function effectively despite the recent attack.
The visit came days after armed men attacked the institute’s vicinity, killing three persons and heightening fears over the safety of staff, participants and residents around the strategic centre.
The incident drew widespread condemnation and renewed calls for stronger security measures.
Security agencies have since arrested some suspects in connection with the attack, while additional security arrangements have been put in place within and around the institution to prevent a recurrence.
Investigations are also ongoing to apprehend all those involved in the assault.
Shettima’s visit is widely viewed as a strong signal of the Federal Government’s resolve to restore confidence in the institution, reassure stakeholders and ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice while safeguarding NIPSS as a vital national asset.
