BusinessDay earlier reported that Barcelona and Bayern Munich were both in advanced talks over a possible move for the Newcastle star, but the Spanish giants have now moved ahead to finalise the transfer.
According to reports, Barcelona will pay €80 million for Gordon, with the agreement also including a sell-on clause as both clubs push to complete the move before the player departs with the England squad for their World Cup training camp in the United States.
Negotiations accelerated significantly over the past few days as Barcelona and Newcastle sought a swift resolution. Bayern Munich also held formal discussions with Newcastle but were reportedly unwilling to meet the Premier League club’s valuation.
Gordon remains under contract at Newcastle until 2030, allowing the Magpies to command a fee well above his estimated market valuation of €60 million.
Newcastle are also expected to make a substantial profit on the €45.6 million it paid Everton for the winger in 2023.
The England international enjoyed an impressive campaign, finishing as Newcastle’s top scorer with 18 goals across all competitions.
Despite signing a long-term contract extension at St James’ Park in October 2024, Gordon increasingly appeared the most likely high-profile departure following Newcastle’s disappointing 12th-place finish in the Premier League.
The sale is expected to provide Newcastle with significant financial flexibility as the club prepares to rebuild its squad during the summer transfer window.
Everton are also set to benefit financially from the transfer due to a 15 percent sell-on clause included in Gordon’s original move to Newcastle.
