…Its labour cost competitiveness leads in Africa
The report, which places Nigeria in the top 3percent of 193 countries surveyed, highlights a shifting landscape in the global talent market as African nations now account for 28percent of the world’s top 25 outsourcing hubs. Nigeria trails only South Africa on the continent, outperforming major global economies including the United Kingdom, Australia, Poland, and Vietnam.
A primary driver of Nigeria’s ascent is its labour cost competitiveness, where it earned a score of 98 out of 100. This ranking places Nigeria among the top 12 most cost-effective nations globally and ahead of traditional outsourcing giants such as India and Pakistan, which scored 96 and 97 respectively. Of the 19 countries sharing the top score for labor costs, Nigeria is the highest-ranked overall due to its broader talent metrics.
The index further reveals that Nigeria, alongside Ghana and Kenya, maintains a superior English proficiency score of 90, surpassing European nations such as France, Spain, and Italy, which each scored 80. This linguistic advantage, paired with high talent availability, has positioned the country as a primary alternative to established markets in Eastern Europe and Latin America.
While South Africa remains the top-ranked African nation with a total score of 88, Nigeria followed closely with 83.45. The data suggests that while Nigeria leads in cost-efficiency, South Africa maintains its overall lead through higher scores in digital infrastructure and business, legal, and political stability.
Analysts note that Nigeria’s standing remains robust against regional peers such as Kenya, Egypt, and Ghana, primarily due to its unique balance of scale and affordability.
The Ataraxis Index utilizes data from the World Bank, UNESCO, and the World Economic Forum to benchmark performance across five dimensions.
