Manchester United have reached an agreement with Michael Carrick to become the club’s permanent head coach following a remarkable run in interim charge.
The formal process of exchanging contracts is now under way, with an official announcement expected within the next 48 hours. There remains uncertainty over whether the deal will be finalised before Sunday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest, although the club are eager to complete the appointment ahead of their final home game of the season.
Carrick is set to sign an initial two-year contract, which includes the option of a further 12 months.
The 44-year-old has overseen a significant turnaround at Old Trafford since replacing Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed in January. Under Carrick, United secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, strengthening his case for the role on a permanent basis.
United’s executive leadership team, including chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, recommended Carrick’s appointment to club owners Ineos, with the proposal now approved by the hierarchy.
