Table fridges, individual awards and goodie bags from sponsors were also presented at the prize-giving ceremony, rounding off what organisers described as a successful day on the course.
Vice chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, Bolaji Martins, said the club was in the middle of a strategic transformation designed to modernise its facilities while preserving the institution’s identity and heritage. He said the roadmap included infrastructure upgrades and a deliberate effort to create a more inclusive environment that caters to both long-standing members and younger professionals entering the community.
Martins added that the club had long served as a meeting point for business leaders and diplomats, and that sustaining that reputation required discipline and a clear sense of shared values among its membership.
“We are more than just a club; we are a family with a shared legacy. The current executive team is focused on building a foundation that future generations will cherish,” he said.
Captain of the Golf Section, Afolabi Balogun, said his vision for the section went beyond organising tournaments, describing his goal as delivering a complete experience for golfers of all levels. He said maintaining the quality of the course was a priority, ensuring that both beginners and experienced players found it consistently rewarding.
Balogun also said he was working to expand the tournament calendar for the year and strengthen golf’s standing as a vehicle for networking, health and professional engagement within Lagos.
“The Ikoyi Club Golf Section represents a proud legacy. My team and I are simply its stewards, dedicated to ensuring we leave it stronger for future generations,” Balogun said.
The Captain’s Inaugural Kitty is the first in a series of golf events the section plans to stage across the year under Balogun’s captaincy.
