Burnley FC have parted ways with head coach Scott Parker by mutual consent, just eight days after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.
The Clarets’ drop was sealed with a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on 22 April, capping a difficult campaign in which they won just four of 34 league games and collected only one point from their last eight.
Assistant manager Mike Jackson will take interim charge for Burnley’s remaining four fixtures, beginning with Friday’s trip to Leeds United.
Burnley’s struggles extended beyond the league, suffering early exits in both domestic cup competitions. They were eliminated from the FA Cup by Mansfield Town and from the Carabao Cup by Cardiff City, both sides from lower divisions.
Parker, appointed in July 2024 on a three-year deal, had guided Burnley back to the Premier League at the first attempt, securing second place in the Championship. His side recorded a historic 30 clean sheets during that promotion-winning campaign.
“It has been an immense privilege to lead this great club,” Parker said, reflecting on his tenure. “I am proud of what we achieved, especially our promotion season, but now is the right time to move in a different direction.”
Despite a promising start to the season, Burnley’s form deteriorated sharply, including a seven-game losing streak that dragged them into the relegation zone. Although they showed resilience in draws against top sides such as Manchester United and Liverpool FC, heavy defeats and poor results against relegation rivals intensified pressure on Parker.
Club chairman Alan Pace had publicly backed the manager earlier in the season, even criticising protesting supporters. However, Burnley’s defensive struggles, conceding 68 goals, the most in the league, ultimately proved costly.
Parker had replaced Vincent Kompany ahead of the 2024–25 season and achieved immediate success despite the departures of key players. His exit marks the end of a turbulent but eventful spell at Turf Moor as Burnley prepare for life back in the Championship.
