Lagos expands oversight of real estate sector

The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen oversight of the real estate sector with an inspection of satellite offices established by the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority across key parts of the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, recently led a team of management staff on an assessment tour of LASRERA’s satellite offices located in Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Ikorodu, Surulere, Agege and Ojodu Local Government and Local Council Development Areas.

The inspection focused on evaluating the operational readiness, facilities and service delivery capacity of the centres, which were established to bring regulatory services closer to residents, property owners, developers and other stakeholders in the real estate sector.

Officials of the host local government councils received the delegation and praised the state’s efforts to decentralise regulatory services, describing the initiative as a step towards improving accessibility, efficiency and public engagement.

Speaking during the visit, Toriola reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening LASRERA’s mandate of sanitising the real estate sector, curbing fraudulent practices and promoting compliance with established regulations.

He said the authority remained a critical component of the state’s efforts to protect residents and restore confidence in property transactions.

According to the permanent secretary, the government was preparing to further expand the agency’s presence across Lagos, with new satellite offices expected to commence operations in Amuwo-Odofin, Mushin, Ojo and Lekki Local Government and Local Council Development Areas.

The planned expansion, he said, was designed to deepen public access to regulatory services and ensure quicker response to real estate-related complaints and compliance issues.

Toriola also commended local government authorities for their support and cooperation, noting that effective collaboration between state agencies and grassroots institutions is essential to achieving a transparent, accountable and well-regulated property market.

The inspection visit forms part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery within the real estate sector, amid growing demand for regulatory oversight in one of Nigeria’s largest property markets.

With additional satellite offices set to open in strategic locations across the state, officials say residents will have easier access to LASRERA’s services, helping to improve compliance, enhance consumer protection and tackle fraudulent activities within the industry.
