The latest attack came barely 24 hours after 11 persons, including two pregnant women, children and elderly residents, were killed during a night assault in Bassa Local Government Area in one of the recurring daily attacks across the state.
The killings in Riyom were confirmed by Rwang Tengwong, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulder Association (BYM) who said the attackers invaded the community at night and opened fire on residents, forcing many villagers to flee for safety.
“We condemn in strong terms the gruesome killing of three innocent residents at Gwa-Rim community in Rim Village, Riyom LGA. These continuous attacks have become unbearable, and we urge security agencies to immediately track down the perpetrators and restore peace in the area”; the BYM spokesperson said.
Efforts to reach Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Plateau state command for official confirmation proved abortive, as calls placed to his telephone numbers did not connect at the time of filing this report.
BusinessDay reports that the continued attacks have heightened fear among rural communities, as many families now sleep in uncertainty amid increasing cases of night invasions and killings across several parts of Plateau State.
