The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced the distribution of large-scale relief materials and financial interventions to communities recently affected by Boko Haram insurgents and the multiple suicide bombings in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Speaking to journalists during the handover ceremony in Maiduguri, Mohammed Wasinda, NEDC State Coordinator, stated that the donation was part of the Commission’s emergency response mandate to alleviate the suffering of citizens following “isolated attacks” in various local government areas.
According to him, Wasinda noted that the items earmarked for the IMS of the Maiduguri multiple blasts—including 2,000 bags of rice, 2,000 cartons of spaghetti, and 2,000 blankets—would be coordinated through State channels.
“Also, construction materials inc, including 1,000 bundles of zinc, 5,000 pieces of ceiling materials, 10,000 pieces of timber, 2,000 rods, and 8,000 packets of nails, will be handed over to the Borno State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA),” Wasinda said.
He explained that SEMA would manage the onward delivery to ensure the materials reach the households most impacted by the blasts and recent security breaches.
Beyond the physical commodities, the NEDC has also verified a list of over 150 victims and survivors of the Maiduguri bombings for cash assistance. According to the State Coordinator, the Commission has finalised a capture for the affected individuals.
“As such, fam families of the deceased victims are to receive N50,000 each as a funeral grant and immediate support, while injured survivors will receive N30,000 each to assist with medical or personal needs.
“For the other affected communities, the distribution plan covers Konduga, Gwoza/Ngoshe, and Kukawa local government areas.
“The items for these three locations – comprising 1,800 bags of rice, 1,800 cartons of spaghetti, and thousands of units of mats and wrappers will be handed over to the respective Local Government Chairmen and their members of the State House of Assembly.
“These leaders will be responsible for the onward delivery to their constituents to ensure the Commission’s support reaches the grassroots,” the Coordinator added.
For the record, the State Coordinator said “Konduga LGA is slated to receive 300 bags of rice, 300 cartons of spaghetti, 250 units of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 500 mats, 500 wrappers, 500 pieces of men’s wear, and 500 pieces of children’s wear. Gwoza/Ngoshe will receive 1,000 bags of rice, 1,000 cartons of spaghetti, 500 units of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 2,000 mats, 500 wrappers, 500 pieces of men’s wear, 500 pieces of children’s wear, and 2,000 blankets.
“Finally, Kukawa is allocated 500 bags of rice, 500 cartons of spaghetti, 200 units of vegetable oil, 100 bags of sugar, 1,000 mats, 500 wrappers, 500 pieces of men’s wear, 500 pieces of children’s wear, and 1,000 blankets.”
Upon the receipt of the donated items on behalf of the Government, Waziri Adamu-Waziri, Representative of the Director General of SEMA, thanked the Commission for its continuous support to the people of Borno, especially in their times of distress.
He emphasised that the items received would be judiciously deployed to the targeted beneficiaries.
