The defectors, drawn from Jere North, Jere South and Iddah wards, were received at a ceremony in Jere, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the senator’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Midat Joseph.
The delegation was led by a former PDP Chairman in Kagarko Local Government, AbdulRahman Jere, who said the decision to leave the party was influenced by governance performance at both federal and state levels.
He said the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, had shown commitment to infrastructure development, inclusion and peace, adding that projects in Southern Kaduna shaped their decision.
“We have watched. We have compared. And we have chosen performance over promises. Senator Katung does not campaign and disappear — he delivers, he listens, and he stands with his people. That is why we are here today,” Jere said.
Katung, while receiving the defectors, described the development as evidence of political alignment with what he called “governance that works.”
“You have not just joined a party; you have joined a movement for results. You have chosen to be part of the team that is bringing federal universities, medical centres, roads and real inclusion to our people,” he said.
He urged the new members to strengthen grassroots mobilisation for the APC, directing them to fully integrate into party structures at ward and polling unit levels.
“Go to every compound, every street, every polling unit. Tell our people why we are here. 2027 will not be won on social media — it will be won door to door, voter to voter. The work starts now,” Katung said.
He added that the defections reflected voters’ preference for performance-driven leadership, saying, “Kagarko has spoken today. The message is clear: Southern Kaduna rewards performance.”
The senator also assured residents that their support would attract more development projects and continued attention from both federal and state authorities.
