Osoba claimed the strategy is aimed at producing multiple presidential candidates from the South to divide votes and weaken Tinubu’s electoral strength in the region.

The former governor spoke at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta during the announcement of the results of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries in Ogun State.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde are seeking tickets of various parties to contest against Tinubu in 2027.
BusinessDay reports that in the primaries conducted across the 20 local government areas of the state, Tinubu secured 322,485 votes to emerge victorious, while his lone challenger, Stanley Osifo, polled zero votes.
Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun, who served as the state coordinator and collation officer, announced the result in the presence of deputy governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele; minister of state for health and social welfare, Iziak Salako; APC governorship candidate Senator Solomon Adeola; Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu; and Ogun APC chairman, Yemi Sanusi, among other party leaders.
Speaking before the formal declaration of results, Osoba cautioned APC members against complacency, insisting that the party must prepare seriously for the “real election” expected next January.
“Many people are saying we have no opponents, but that is a misleading narrative. The enemies are many,” Osoba said.
He specifically mentioned former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, and former President Goodluck Jonathan as political figures whose ambitions or possible involvement could split Southern votes against Tinubu.
“As we approach the next election, there is a strong gang-up against us. They are plotting to field several candidates from our region in the South. Obi has emerged, Jonathan is quietly waiting in the background, and Makinde has been grandstanding,” he stated.
Osoba urged party supporters in Ogun State to repay Tinubu’s support to the state with massive votes in the next election, citing what he described as the president’s developmental projects in the state.
