At the service, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, delivered a sermon drawn from Psalm 90:12, urging attendees to remain mindful of life’s journey and the inevitability of accountability before God. He emphasised that those who desire to finish well must fear God, prioritise holiness, and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
Adeboye also described Daniel as “quite an exceptional politician and original Omoluwabi,” noting that, having lived in Ogun State since 1983, he could confidently attest to Daniel’s character and his longstanding relationship with the church.
“If you are looking for original Omoluwabi, Gbenga Daniel is one, and people like him are quite few. That is why when he approached me and said that I would be the one to say a few words during his 70th birthday, I said I would alter my busy schedule and be there. I respect you, sir; the Redeemed Christian Church of God respect you and wishes you a happy 70th birthday,” Adeboye said.
In his remarks, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, commended Daniel for his contributions to governance and national development.
“As governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel brought energy and purpose to governance, laying foundations that continue to support growth and development across our state,” he said.
Abiodun added that Daniel has maintained the same level of dedication in his current role as senator representing Ogun East, where he continues to contribute to legislation and constituency development. He also prayed for continued strength for the celebrant and encouraged him to remain committed to service.
Music at the event was led by gospel saxophonist, BeeJay Sax and his band.
Dignitaries present included former President Olusegun Obasanjo, represented by his wife, Bola; Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke; former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja; the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo; the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi; Senator Iyabo Obasanjo; and business leader Biodun Sobanjo, among others.
Ahead of the birthday, Daniel also hosted a book unveiling on April 1, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, where four books were unveiled. The titles include My March Through the Court and the Triumph of Faith, Path to Justice, Daniel in the Lion’s Den, and Otunba Gbenga Daniel in the Eye of Times.
