Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, the Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has announced that all academic programmes offered by the institution are now fully accredited.
Ogbodo also revealed that the school has introduced a compulsory skill acquisition programme aimed at equipping students with entrepreneurial skills before graduation.
He made the disclosure when members of the IMT Alumni Association paid him a courtesy visit as part of activities marking the maiden edition of the IMT Enugu Global Homecoming, taking place from June 11 to June 14, 2026, in Enugu.
The Rector stated that within the 18 months since he assumed office, the institution has recorded significant achievements in academic excellence, administration, and infrastructure development.
According to him, over 70 per cent of the programmes offered by the institution had lost their accreditation when he took over leadership in 2024. However, with the support of the Enugu State Government under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the accreditation challenges have been fully resolved.
“We are working to restore the lost glory of this great institution. When I was appointed Rector about 18 months ago, the accreditation of over 70 per cent of our courses had expired. Through hard work and the support of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, I am proud to announce that all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited,” he said.
Ogbodo further disclosed that the institution has introduced eight new academic programmes, including Taxation through the unbundling of the Department of Accountancy, Locomotive Engineering, Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and a Diploma in Law.
He added that IMT, in collaboration with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort), currently offers degree programmes.
The Rector also revealed that the Enugu State Government has plans to establish an aviation school within the institution.
Highlighting another major achievement of his administration, the Rector said IMT has launched the “One Diploma, One Skill” initiative, designed to ensure that every student acquires a vocational skill alongside their academic qualification.
He noted that the institution now operates its own bakery, producing bread for the school community, with plans for future expansion. He also disclosed that efforts are underway to attract industries to establish operational bases within the institution.
According to him, Governor Mbah is expected to commission the first indigenous transformer manufactured by IMT in the near future.
The Rector commended the IMT Alumni Association, led by Agodi Kanu the National President, , for organising the maiden Global Homecoming, stressing that alumni associations play vital roles in the development of educational institutions worldwide.
Earlier, Kanu described the Global Homecoming as a platform for alumni to reconnect, network, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of their alma mater. He announced that the event would become a biennial programme and revealed that the association had redeemed its pledge of N5 million for the beautification of the institution and would institute scholarships for the best-performing students in both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) categories.
As part of activities marking the event, participants embarked on a facility tour of the IMT Sculpture Park and Museum, where they were conducted around the facilities by Ayo Adewunmi the Dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and Printing Technology, and Tony Okeh the Head of the Department of Industrial Design, who explained the meaning of some the artworks.
The alumni members also visited the Mother of Christ Motherless Babies Home at Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, as part of their charity outreach. Activities for the IMT Enugu Global Homecoming 2026 continue on Saturday with a lecture series, fitness walk, awards ceremony for distinguished alumni, and a gala dinner. Ends
