Donald Trump, United States President, has claimed that American forces, working alongside the Nigerian military, carried out a joint operation that eliminated a senior ISIS commander in Africa.
In a statement shared on his social media account, Trump said the operation targeted Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, whom he described as the “second in command of ISIS globally” and “the most active terrorist in the world.”
According to him, the operation was “meticulously planned” and successfully executed by American and Nigerian armed forces.
Trump alleged that the ISIS leader had been hiding in Africa and coordinating terror operations targeting both Africans and Americans before he was tracked down through intelligence sources.
The US president further claimed that the killing of the commander had significantly weakened ISIS’s global operations.
Trump also thanked the Nigerian government for its partnership in the operation.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the Nigerian government, the Nigerian military, or US authorities regarding the operation or the identity of the alleged ISIS commander.
