The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that no fire occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, following safety concerns after smoke was observed in parts of the building.

Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed that flight and terminal operations have resumed following the disruption.
“Preliminary findings indicate that there was no fire at the terminal,” Agbebire said in the statement. “The smoke observed within the affected area resulted from the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system. The reason for the activation is currently being investigated.”
While operations have normalised, FAAN noted that a technical investigation remains ongoing to determine what triggered the system’s discharge.
The authority expressed appreciation to passengers, airlines, and airport stakeholders for their patience, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining safety and operational integrity across the nation’s airports.

“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation. There have been no reported casualties or loss of life,” it stated.
