Hyginus Banko, the executive chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), disclosed that the vacancies span academic, technical and administrative cadres, with applications closing on Friday, August 14, 2026.
According to the announcement, the recruitment is tied to Peter Mbah, the executive governor of Enugu State’s broader human capital strategy for the education sector, aimed at providing ‘the human resources required to drive the Smart Green School initiative and deliver quality education across the state.’
Core subject teaching roles account for the bulk of the openings, with 4,698 vacancies for teachers of Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, ICT, French, Igbo Language and History.
Non-teaching and specialised roles make up the remainder: 520 digital librarians, 380 experiential learning innovators, 267 guidance counsellors, 267 ICT staff, 267 laboratory attendants, 136 account officers and 45 technicians.
For teaching positions, ENSUBEB is requiring a bachelor’s degree in education, a first degree or Higher National Diploma with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or a Nigeria Certificate in Education in a relevant subject.
Registration, or proof of ongoing registration, with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is compulsory.
Requirements for non-teaching roles are more varied, spanning degrees in fields such as Library and Information Science, STEM and Psychology, down to an Ordinary National Diploma, Trade Test Certificate or SSCE/WASSCE for roles including laboratory attendants, technicians and ICT staff.
The board emphasised that all degree and HND holders must present a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and stressed that ‘practical proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools is required across all cadres.’
Candidates are to submit an application letter, curriculum vitae, credentials, a birth certificate or affidavit of age, and valid contact details, either in hard copy to the Office of the Executive Chairman, ENSUBEB, Enugu State, or to the board’s website as provided.
ENSUBEB clarified that the process attracts no charges, noting that the application is completely free of charge, and that only shortlisted candidates will be invited for screening and selection interviews.
