The attack, which occurred at about 8 p.m., also left a number of worshippers injured. Victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the exact number of those abducted and wounded could not be confirmed as of press time.
The deceased was identified as Adamu Ibraheem.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the mosque while prayers were ongoing and opened fire on worshippers, causing panic and confusion among residents.
According to community sources, the gunmen laid siege to the area before launching the assault, ambushing worshippers and residents during the evening prayer session. The attackers reportedly continued shooting as people attempted to flee for safety.
Residents said the operation took place amid heavy rainfall, with the gunmen encountering little resistance before escaping with their captives.
The death of Adamu Ibraheem was confirmed by a relative, Abubakar Abdullahi, who disclosed the incident to journalists. Community members described the killing as tragic and said the attack had thrown the village into mourning.
The incident has further heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Kaduna State, particularly in Giwa Local Government Area, which has witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups. Residents in some parts of Kaduna South have also reported sporadic criminal incursions in recent weeks.
Community leaders and local observers warned that the recurring violence points to persistent security gaps across rural and semi-urban communities in the State. They noted that places of worship and remote settlements remain vulnerable despite ongoing security operations.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful as calls and messages to the Police Public Relations Officer were not returned as of the time of filing this report.
Security Agencies had yet to release official figures on the number of persons abducted and injured in the attack.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations as residents await further updates on the incident and the fate of those taken away by the gunmen.
