Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified their offensive against terrorist groups in Zamfara State, killing more terrorists and recovering weapons during a series of coordinated clearance operations.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were carried out in the early hours of May 4, 2026, targeting known terrorist hideouts in several communities.

The affected areas included Maikwanuga village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, as well as Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, Magami Didi and Tungar Magaji villages in Maradun Local Government Area.
Danja said troops encountered terrorists at Tungar Magaji, where a fierce gun battle followed.
“During the advance, troops engaged terrorists in Tungar Magaji with overwhelming firepower, neutralising two terrorists and forcing others to flee in disarray,” he said.
He added that after the encounter, soldiers searched the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, as well as a motorcycle.
“Following the engagement, troops conducted a thorough search of the area, recovering one AK-47 rifle with a 30-round loaded magazine and one motorcycle,” he stated.
The military spokesperson explained that the latest operation forms part of an ongoing campaign to destroy terrorist camps within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor and restore lasting peace to communities affected by insecurity.
“The operations are part of a sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist hideouts within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor and ensure lasting security for affected communities,” Danja said.
He reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue its aggressive operations across the North-West until criminal elements are eliminated.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property and will continue to sustain offensive actions against terrorists in its area of responsibility,” he added.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.
