The Obidient Movement Worldwide has reiterated its support for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, insisting that efforts to undermine his political relevance ahead of the 2027 elections have instead strengthened his popularity.

Tanko said the movement remains firmly committed to Obi’s political future, noting that recent developments point to expanding grassroots mobilisation in his favour.
According to him, new support structures are emerging across different regions, including the “Peter Obi 4 President Movement,” led by Awal Kuka, which he said now has presence in 19 states in Northern Nigeria.
He said the development reflects sustained public interest in Obi’s political project and dismissed claims that opposition to the former Anambra State governor was weakening his support base.
“We Stand with HE Peter Obi. In all their efforts to stop HE PO from running for the office of President of Nigeria, his popularity keeps increasing,” Tanko said.
He also declared that the movement remains resolute in its message of political reform and national renewal, stating, “Stand with Peter Obi. We are confident in our message of political reform and national renewal. A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The renewed endorsement comes amid shifting political alignments involving the former presidential candidate, who recently announced his departure from the African Democratic Congress, citing internal crises and worsening national conditions.
Obi, in a statement shared on X on Sunday, said his decision followed deep personal reflection and what he described as “silent pains” experienced while navigating Nigeria’s political space.
He said the political environment had become increasingly hostile to sincere public service.
“We now live in an environment that has become increasingly toxic, where the system that should protect and create opportunities often works against the people,” Obi said.
He also faulted what he described as internal pressures and unfair criticisms within political circles, adding that humility is often misinterpreted in Nigeria’s political culture.
“Some who publicly identify with you privately distance themselves or join in unfair criticism,” he said.
Obi clarified that his exit from the ADC was not the result of personal disagreements with party leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he continues to respect.
“Let me state clearly: my decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them,” he said.
He, however, pointed to what he described as recurring internal disputes and unresolved political conflicts as factors that distracted from national issues.
“However, the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced me to leave now appear to be finding their way into the ADC, with endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division, instead of focusing on deeper national problems and playing politics built more on control and exclusion than on service and nation-building,” Obi said.
The former governor stressed that he is not driven by political ambition but by national concern.
“I am not desperate to be President, Vice President or Senate President. I am desperate to see a Nigeria where people can live in dignity, without hunger, fear, or displacement,” he said.
Despite exiting the ADC, Obi reaffirmed his belief in a better Nigeria, insisting that competent and compassionate leadership remains possible.
“A new Nigeria is possible,” he declared.
