Nigeria’s insurance industry is gaining fresh international credibility as the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom endorsed the growing global engagement of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), describing its consistent participation at the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) Conference as a strong positive projection of the Nigerian brand and a catalyst for industry growth.

The endorsement comes amid ongoing reforms in the sector, particularly the implementation of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA 2025), which stakeholders believe could reposition the industry for stronger contribution to economic development.

Speaking during a reception for the NCRIB delegation in the UK, Aminu Mohammed Dalhatu, Nigerian high commissioner said the Council’s sustained presence and professional contributions at the annual BIBA Conference had helped improve Nigeria’s image internationally while reinforcing confidence in the country’s insurance market.
Dalhatu noted that the conduct of the NCRIB delegation over the years had remained exemplary, with no reported breach of international travel protocols, adding that the group had become a model for responsible institutional representation abroad.
He further stated that the reforms sweeping through Nigeria’s insurance sector, backed by the new insurance law, were expected to unlock fresh opportunities, deepen market confidence and accelerate the industry’s growth trajectory.
Earlier, Ekeoma Ezeibe, president and chairman of Council of the NCRIB said the Council being an affiliate of BIBA had seen the need to attend its yearly conferences in a bid to give opportunities to delegates to cross-fertilise ideas and deepen the knowledge base of the insurance industry in Nigeria.
She said that the Council particularly had a rewarding session at the previous year’s BIBA with the conferment of Lifetime Achievement Award on the Doyen of Insurance in Nigeria, Olola Olabode Ogunlana, for the rare feat of having practiced insurance for 73 unbroken years.
