Nigeria’s Inflation Climbs To 15.69% In April 2026

Nigeria’s inflation rate increased slightly to 15.69 per cent in April 2026, according to new data from the National Bureau of Statistics. The figure shows a small rise from the previous month.

The report is based on the Consumer Price Index update. It covers price changes across goods and services in the country. The bureau said food prices played a major role in the movement.

The National Bureau of Statistics said inflation stood at 138.3 index points during the period. It added that the rise in prices was also seen in transport and selected services.

Food inflation stood at 16.06 per cent compared to a higher rate recorded a year earlier. The bureau linked the movement to changes in prices of staples such as rice, beans, yam and tomatoes.

Core inflation rose to 15.86 per cent over the same period. It tracks price changes without food and energy items.

Urban inflation stood at 15.40 per cent while rural inflation was higher at 16.36 per cent. The bureau said rural areas recorded faster price increases during the month.

At state level, inflation rates varied across the country. Some states recorded higher price increases while others recorded lower movement in prices.

The bureau said the new CPI structure reflects updated spending patterns in households.
